The ETIAS Europe visa

The European Parliament to adopt a new electronic system of control of foreign travelers. These security measures are directly inspired by the American ESTA.

ETIAS stands for Europe Travel Information and Authorisation System. This information and travel authorization system for the European Union is a new travel formality. Like an ESTA for the United States, an ETIAS is not a visa. An ETIAS is a travel authorization procedure allowing free movement within the Schengen area.

How does an ETIAS visa work?

The main features of ETIAS similar to ESTA are:

• Automatic verification of the traveler’s information: identity, passport number, home address, contact information;
• Automated processing of the application according to the criteria of the country of entry;
• Length of stay not to exceed 90 days;
• Response provided within 72 hours.

The main differences with ESTA are:

• The ETIAS is valid for 3 years as opposed to only 2 years for an ESTA;
• The price of the ETIAS is 10 €. It is mandatory for all travelers. However, it will be free for minors.
• If the ETIAS is refused, the traveler will receive an e-mail indicating the reason for the refusal.

How to obtain an ETIAS European visa?

The only way to obtain an ETIAS is to apply online. Obtaining an ETIAS is done online and only takes a few minutes. The application must be made on the official ETIAS website.

Who can benefit from ETIAS?

The ETIAS is intended for nationals of countries that do not require a visa to travel within the Schengen area. The list of countries updated as of January 1, 2023 is :
