What size and format for the Green Card photo?

The digital photo must be in .JPEG file format. The file size of the photo must be at least 600 x 600 pixels and at least 54 kilobytes.

How should the head be positioned in the photo?

The head on the Green Card photo must face the camera. The head must be fully visible and centered in the photo. The entire head area should represent approximately 60% of the total height of the photo.

The candidate’s eyes must be perfectly open and clearly visible. The photographed candidate must not express any facial expression: no smiling, a neutral facial expression.

Can I wear a veil over my head in the Green Card photo?

Green Card candidates may not wear a cap or hat on their Green Card photo, as it may cover part of their face.

However, headscarves worn for religious reasons are an exception to the rule: the wearing of a religious headscarf is permitted on the Green Card photo if the face is visible from the chin to the top of the forehead.

How should the background of the Green Card photo look?

The Green Card photo must be taken against a light background. The photo background should be a light, solid color. The background color can be white or off-white. The background of the photo should not show any shadows.

How old can the Green Card photo be?

The photo for your Green Card application must not be more than 6 months old. The U.S. government requires that the photo be recent to ensure that it reflects your current face. Failure to comply with this rule may result in your photo being rejected at the final Green Card interview. This requirement that the photo be less than 6 months old also applies to the photo supplied for a U.S. visa application.

Can I wear glasses in the Green Card photo?

It’s forbidden to wear glasses on the Green Card photo, whether they be vision aids or sunglasses. The photo of the Green Card must be taken without glasses.
