Procedure for requesting an ESTA
All travelers planning to travel to the US for leisure or business should begin an ESTA procedure prior to travel. This formality for a trip to the US is for citizens of countries entitled to the Visa Waiver Program, a program of which France is a part.
By requesting the ESTA document, you will have the opportunity to stay for 90 days on US soil.
To make your ESTA application you will need:
- a valid passport;
- a valid credit card to pay the $ 14 processing fee;
- all your personal information (contact information, names and surnames of your parents).
Before starting the process, make sure you also meet the conditions for obtaining:
- you have a passport
- you travel through a company licensed by the Visa Waiver Program;
- you have a return ticket.
The procedure to get your ESTA
You can get your ESTA in about twenty minutes. To do this, simply log in to the official website and make an individual request.
The ESTA form is in the form of a long document to be completed . Several sections are proposed to you and must be completed with great attention. At first, you will find questions about your identity (first and last name, date of birth, phone number).
The following questions are about your stay and your passport. Enter your passport number, departure city and flight number.
Lastly, you will have to read and answer “yes” or “no” to ten very specific questions about your judicial past, your relationship to US law and your health.
Verification and validation
Two steps are yet to come: checking your data and then validating them. Taking the time to reread your ESTA questionnaire is of the first importance: finding an error too late can make it invalid. You will then have to reapply or turn to the embassy or consulate.
Finally, internet users are invited to pay a processing fee of 14 dollars. In most cases, acceptance of the ESTA form is almost immediate. When a longer period is necessary, you will receive a response within 72 hours.
